Has anyone seen signs of the thread fin spawn on Ray Roberts or Lewisville? Where is a good place on these lakes to catch shad? Thanks for any help.

Before the flood they were spawning on windblown points in shallow water along with sandies and hybrids eating them. Now that the lake has flooded I am sure they are doing it still but I am sure the locations have changed. I would still be looking shallow in wind blown areas.

Shell beds, rip rap, retaining walls, wind blown points, boat ramps, shallow. Very early in the mornings. Once the suns up, they're done until after dark. That's not specific to those lakes. Just classic threadfin spawn stuff.

Yep! My lake is flooded and the shad are real tight to flooded vegetation.

They were everywhere around the boat slips at Pier 121 Marina a couple of Sundays ago. There were so many I could scoop them out with a dip net.

That was the way it was at Highport Marina on Texoma the last two years but not this year. Appears we really do have a shad problem this year.

they are spawning now on Lewisville and you can catch them by the hundreds if you time it right.. when the lake is high like this i like to target grassy areas. preferably someone's flooded back yard. the reason so is because my net wont get caught in anything. your literally wanting to throw your net up into 6" of water. If you get to the lake before the sun comes up focus under bridges (lights) and/or in the lake Dallas cut. once the sun comes up look for the birds lining the bacnk. they like the grassy banks as well. some of my more productive spawning areas are the following:

1. across from the little elm ramp on the point where that nice house is. this is north west of the bridge.
2. right next to the little elm ramp, literally.
3. the tower bay ramp area. its nice and manicured as well. great area.

good luck..

Thanks for the great reply. You just got yourself hired if I need a guide on Lewisville! Do you find that a cold front like what just came through effects the shad spawn like it does the crappy spawn?

yes it will slow them down some however mother nature still takes its course. try under the lights early and then look for the spawners if your unsuccessful..
