Stay away from vaping, it’s starting to look like it could be worse than smoking. Based on what? It contains glycerin (or propylene glycol), nicotine, water and food grade flavoring. They are far and away safer than combustible tobacco cigs....and it's not even close. The ingredients used to make e-juice can be found in many of the food items you buy at the local market. The core of e-juice existence was to give a safe alternative to those wanting to kick the smokes. Now, if you're buying your juice from the back of some guys van at a Home Depot, all bets are off.

There is a book named "easy way to quit smoking" by Allen Carr... read it once 2 plus years ago and it helped me tremendously. I fell back into the trap again during our move here from MS, 3 months of no smoking down the tube. We've lived here in Texas now for 2 years and 4 months. Read the book one more time and got some chantix and I haven't smoked in almost 2 months. It really has been easy and I don't see myself ever lighting up again.I don't like reading much but this one was actually a good read. Highly recommend it for those who are serious about quitting.

Very helpful information BCB - I hope the book is helpful for you and others. Once you have a stack of days, you can continue that stack by not putting a smoking device anywhere near your face. Simple. Distract your brain with something - anything but a burning cigarette. When the craving has passed, pat yourself on the back and return to whatever it was that you were doing before you had the craving. Recognize the cravings and distract yourself.

The truth of the matter is that no one really knows because of the following: 1) Vaping has not been tested on a large scale 2) It's relatively new and has not been observed very long 3) It's unregulated so no one REALLY knows what is in brand to brand I agree that vaping is probably better than smoking, but to state so as fact is impossible and to imply that it's not at all harmful is careless. Furthermore, to reason that vaping is safe because some of the known ingredients are in food, is like saying that it's safe to smoke cloves. In short, lets not conclude that what is safe for the digestive system is automatically safe for the lungs. What we can say is that vaping is often more addictive that cigarettes because you can mix a stronger vape and because you can do it almost anywhere you want. Meaning, you can duck into any bathroom, empty hall, stairs well or quiet corner and grab a quick vape... But you have to walk outside to smoke. Vaping is here to stay and it really needs to be tested and regulated. I'm not in favor of large scale regulations, but as it stands anyone can mix up some juice, slap a label on it and sell it to people to freebase. That is scary.

21 days tobacco/nicotine free after a 27 year habit and countless failed attempts with crutches like the gum & patches. Went stone cold turkey & think I got it licked. Feels great to not be a slave to the habit anymore.

I quit Cold Turkey in late 79'.....drinking too. Got rid of everything that reminded me of a cigarette , stayed away from smokers as much as I could. Got to have some will power for sure. The wife quit a few years ago...no patches,pills,gum.....nothing. She never looked back. I was really proud of her. Both of my sisters died of COPD at an early age. Good luck..

Day 22 tobacco free. I was so tired of dipping after so many years. I didn't plan on quitting, just woke up one morning and made the decision, cold turkey.

When you get ready to quit, just quit cold turkey. If I could after 40 plus years of smoking anybody can.

Any tips or resources for someone looking to quit for the first time? I've started cutting back a lot and would like to give it a go while I'm not smoking as regularly. Anyone had luck with vaping as a bridge to full on quitting?
