Thinking about going to spot lock, but not sure if its worth the money for me. Can I get some opinions? Has it changed the way you fish?
Little about me:
I don't fish tournaments, I just fish for fun. Mostly black bass. Sometimes white bass. Due to work schedule I only get out a few times a month. Sometimes with a friend, sometimes alone, and sometimes with my kidos.
I do see the appeal, example would be last weekend. It was windy and I was over some deeper bass but I was having a hard time staying in a smaller spot that I wanted to fish. There were no stumps nearby to tie too, I was in open water.
My boat is a 21' fish and ski Skeeter and I currently have a 70lb Maxxum on.

Again, just looking for opinions. Is it worth the investment for me? If so, what is the least expensive version that has this feature? I don't need the Lambo version, just the one that will do the job.
Thanks for any insight.
J

It is worth every penny for sure. Fishing with the wind, not have to do the captain morgan to stay in place. Hook a fish and not having to worry about being slammed into a dock or bank by the wind or waves. Plus the other added features as well....Worth every penny for sure

Fish with your kids one time with an Ultrex and you will never go without one again. i can Spot Lock on a crappie hole and it's like fishing with them on a dock. I can bait hooks and unhook fish and I can still fish a little in between and never touch the trolling motor.

The newer ones may be better and people do say that, but my Minn Kota Terrova with spot lock will release my boat when the wind is high and not hold it. I only have a light 175 TXW so the 80 LB thrust terrova should hold but it does not in high wind.

It's OK for open water to spot lock and rig a pole. If you try spot lock in a tight area it will wander and hit docks, etc. Best to tie up.

Worth every cent! Will never own another boat without one! Taking my 4 year old son is much easier now as mentioned before...

Best $$$ Ive ever spent. I have an XI5 24v 80 lb., it holds my 19 boat within 5 feet of my anchor point really good in high winds. Its changed the way I fish no doubt.

I'm on my 3rd year with an X5i. From day one I kept telling myself I should get power poles to go with it. Still haven't gotten the power poles and probably never will. No need for them.

If you have the option to fish with someone that has one, make it happen. You will wonder how in the world you fished without !

Game changer for sure. I fish by myself from time to time too. I went with the Ulterra Link and have not regretted it. I can deploy it as Im approaching the spot I want to fish and spot-lock it all from the fish-finder. I have not touched my remote since installing it. When leaving, after starting the big motor, I use the fish finder to stow the Ulterra As I get older, this sure is a nice feature to have.

You cannot stow or deploy an Ultrex remotely, you can with an Ulterra.

hands free when snagged, when bringing in a fish, no more back pain bending over the trolling motor. worth Every penny!! Heck my terrova talks to my Huminbird and will automatically follow a pre set path or follow the contours of the shoreline. It will even go to a premarked way point. won't have another boat without it. I can fish longer, with better focus, and not feel tired.
