Hey guys, think I am going to head out to Lavon for my first time( I live close). I normally fish Hubbard but I want to switch it up a bit. Looking at the map, it looks like lavons shore is just flood bushes... not looking for any secrets here but I’m not sure where to start.

Fish it like Hubbard, rocks...

Dam, pump station, bridges, marinas, ramps, roads, piles, etc.

I'm definitely no pro out there, but if you are used to it on one lake, it should work less than 20 miles away in the same riverbed.

Lavon is fishing very tough right now. Five feet high, gates open, and murky to muddy water has fish scattered with lock jaw. The "best" pattern I have found with the lake in this condition is pitching t-rig creature baits on outside edges of flooded shoreline vegetation....maybe even a few feet in front of the visible edges where the actual vegetation edge is. Be prepared to cover a lot of water as well.

One of my best days on Lavon was when the lake was 7ft high. Weighed in almost 20lbs in a club tournament and took the win. Fish the flooded bushes with something fast like a buzzbait or squarebill and cover as much water as you can. You might fish a few hundred yards of bushes before you get bit, but when you catch one slow down and pick that area apart with a t-rig. All those bushes look the same, but you'll find that certain sections of them are loaded with fish- with hundreds of yards of empty bushes on either side.

Leave your rods at home and spend a day graphing out there. 100’s of massive brush piles and rock piles. You’ll get a few bites fishing the high percentage stuff everyone else fishes, but that lake blows Hubbard out of the water if you put the time in on it.

Lavon is a very fickle lake. Typically when the water level is high and the dam is releasing the bite is really tough. There are definitely a lot of big fish out there. I’ve personally caught 2 double digits out of there, and a 9.5 this spring. I’d advise you to join the Facebook groups. You’ll know when the bite is on because you’ll start seeing people posting their catch. When the lake turns on it is an awesome lake, but it typically doesn’t stay hot very long.
