They had to if they wanted to have max weight. With only 1 over allowed per day Cobb would have been nowhere near his weight if they had to bring in and weigh a 5 fish limit. He had Mid 30 on day 3 I think. Not going to do that with an over and 4 unders . Any special rule lake needs a modified weighing. At least on the professional level. I dont think the MLF weighing system will work for the small tours and weekend tournies but thats just an opinion. If there were special rules put in place to weigh 5 overs you would not have seen MLF weigh system this past weekend. I might be wrong, but I almost swear they (BASS/TPWD Texas Fest) used this format at Conroe sometime in the last 2 or 3 years.

If you strictly catch and release you end up with lakes that have an abundance of 1-2 pounders and no big fish. We dont catch even 5% of the fish that inhabit our lakes. The 5 fish limit was implemented for a reason. The natural death of a bass plus the incidental killings from handling keep our lakes from becoming to overpopulated with undersize fish.

Really great to see this format being implemented by bassmaster, even if it is only for this tournament. I personally feel that it should be used during all of their tournaments. The old format of keeping bass in the live well for hours just to weigh them in /show them off has killed many a great fisheries.Kudos to bassmaster, btw great tournament bassmaster. Thanks Yes PAA started this format long before MLF was even thought of . I dont know if you are being a smart [censored] or you is just uninformed

All we have to do is ask for evidence and facts and the conversation is over.. OP is either uninformed, or trolling.

Just imagine if BASS held a Classic in late February/early March with this format? Hypothetically of course. You could easily see ALL weigh records for a Classic get destroyed. Hold Expo in Tyler, Longview or Dallas and have the event on Fork. Its a pipe dream I'm sure but would be fun to see unfold.

Sinkey how's the fishing on Glade? Haven't been in there since mid April. I've been staying out around mid lake.

All we have to do is ask for evidence and facts and the conversation is over.. OP is either uninformed, or trolling. Evidence of increased mortality from keeping fish in a livewell vs immediately releasing? That evidence is overwhelming. Now if we start conflating issues and say that tournament mortality is a good thing because it reduces fish populations then we've started a different debate. In that debate, I'd argue that tournament mortality, for the most part, impacts fish a biologist would not choose to have culled. What you want to be culling is the 1-2 lbers that tournament anglers toss back. The righteous indignation here at the OP is a bit over the top.

If everyone caught and released we wouldn't need tpw anymore....
It's a cool format for fork but I hope they never go to it full time. Keeping fish alive should and always be a part of tournaments. The fish are for everyone to enjoy, whether it be a fillet knife, catch and release, or tournament That statement makes more since than most I read on here.
