Hoping to fish this weekend and posted on bass forum, but would like to try for cats too for a future trip with my Goddaughter. Can I catch blues shallow with slip cork and punchbait? Or deeper with cut or live shad? Not asking for honey holes, just general technique. Thx for any help.

I went down a day before blue catting so I could catch a few carp for cut bait. I sat on the dock and caught 7-8 blue and channel cat using canned corn kernels as carp bait. Never did catch a carp and had to net shad. Good luck! Punch bait should work just fine.

Right now I would go shallow. Depending on when you take your God-daughter will depend on the depth.
Big fish are few and far between this time of year. But the eater size are plentiful. Cork and punch bait will produce both channels and blues. If wanting to target blues then fresh shad on a smaller circle hook with a santee rig. Shad will produce some channels but more blues.

Thx for the help fellas. Not sure when I will take my Goddaughter. Now that she has graduated college and went to work, it's harder to get her out....I hate that! Good luck to y'all.

Fished punchbait and only caught about 5 channels. Glad I didn't take my Goddaughter this time. Maybe need some shad?

I caught a limit of catfish today just fishing punchbait on the bottom I use a leader and a 4 oz bank sinker and a number 4 treble hook and i cast as far as I could and then I would tighten my line and wait for a bite

GO NOW!!!! Slip cork, pegged cork, bottom........It doesn't matter. Channels are loaded up in the shallows with a few occasional blues.
