I'm interested to know if anybody on here has any experience with the MHX Rod Blanks from MudHole and how they compare with some of the higher end Kistler or G.Loomis rods.

I have a few. They fit right in with my falcon Cara rods. I used them as multipurpose rods. 7 medium heavy with extra fast tip. Worth having someone skilled at rod building do the work.

They are decent but I think better options are available. Look at Batson Rainshadow. The Immortal series are among my favorites. Phenix are top notch too.

Kevin Smith just completed 4 of the MHX rods in the Metallic Series for me. I now have my 3 slightly used G.Loomis rods for sale. Kevin is your contact to discuss this at Shamrock Rod & Reel Services. Just got tired of having the Kistler and Loomis rods replaced for tips and eyes breaking. I fished with the New MHX's for the last two weeks and love everything about them. I also had Kevin install the new full rubber grips in Black/Chartreuse swirl from Mud Hole.
You can watch Kevin's Video on Facebook at "Donkey Bassin".

MHX blanks are nice, especially te hi mods.
My first build ever was a first gen MHX Hi Mod 822 drop shot rod. I still have it and use it all the time. I've caught a ton of fish on it.
That said it all depends on what you want and what your expectations are.
If you want the absolute best and most sensitive, I really like Point Blank, Raindshadow Eternal, or Phenix K2. NFC also is currently having a sale I believe, I have 2 of their x ray blanks I still have to build and they seem quite nice.
Not a knock on MHX, they make nice stuff.

I put My high modulas MHX blanks against any of my Gloomis rods, I honestly cant tell a difference. Its not like theyre cheap, still looking at 125-140$ if you put really nice guides, seat and grips on it

Got the grips and guides some of which I have changed because of Kevins great advice after my first couple of rods. For my fishing these are the best rods I have ever owned and can't think of using anything else these days. They really look good also and Kevin can custom make them any way you want.

The high-mod versions snap like twigs. The regular ones are very good

Yes, you step on the rods, over arch the rod setting the hook, even playing the fish over arching you will brake any rod. there are a lot of people out there who " Think " they know more about rods than anyone else out there, believe me they don' t . through the years I have heard all kinds of things, braid I was told would cut the guide eyelets. I checked into it called Mudhole tech, he laughed his [censored] off, he said send me the guide mail it to me I will make you rich. I have built a ton of Rods I don't know everything about rods, but I know enough. The majority of the people on this website may not know what they're talking about when it comes to rods or rod building. If you have questions, call Mudhole Tech, they are very nice, knowledgeable people and their rods are excellent.

I had two rods built on MHX blanks but they were not made by Mudhole so I don't know which ones he is building. The ones I had I didn't think they were all that sensitive. They were not the high end MHX blanks. I never bought another one. The two rods I had were in the $150 range.
