Mercer definitely rubs me the wrong way! Tried watching his "Facts of Fishing", about 1 1/2 minutes of one episode was more than I could stand! B.A.S.S. could definitely do better, Zona for instance.

I like old Dave...especially the part of the intro to his show when he takes a deep breath, gets ready to fire a long cast and birdnests' the [censored] out of his reel. LOL. I can only deal with small doses of him at times tho as that laugh is too much. Zona is good too. Upvote for Mike Ike tho that would be entertaining to watch.

He�s pretty darn good for a Canuck, Eh. I�ve always enjoyed watching him. Probably overdid it a bit with the GGGGG-iant bass line. Zona aka the Zavala kid, can�t help but like him.

Sitting here thinking about this and I think you're right. Mercer is insanely annoying, so much so that I refuse to watch a BASS weigh in, the dude before him didn't know anything about bass fishing, Fish Fishburn was way too over the top.

I just quit watching. I'm not an instant gratification person, I'd rather just check the results later than have bleeding ears.

He and Zona, too, can appear over the top at times. I like them both.

And, I once heard the reason for this and it stuck with me, it explained things.

On TV, otherwise in videos of any sort, if a presenter or an announcer or an actor comes off speaking and acting normal, like most of us do in real life, they come off as flat and cardboard-like to viewers. So, the better ones are like Zona and Mercer, others, where they look and act very animated, move a lot with body gestures/make extreme facial expressions, talk loud/brag/kid around . . . everything you hear and see seems a bit overboard.

But, dang, wait until they hire some stiff with an expressionless face, standing still, flat voice, no personality. All of that gets magnified. No disrespect meant to one of, if not the greatest bass angler of all time, but can any of you even imagine Rick Clunn as a replacement for Dave Mercer?

I think he does a really good job keeping everything straight, like anglers names, statistics etc but I can't stand his "shtick" either. "GGGGGGGGGGGIANT BASS"

You remember Greasy Elvis? That was not what B.A.S.S. needed, even the anglers hated him. I would give another vote to Zona, I love his show and the way he connects to the anglers... But Dave Mercer seems to be pretty decent

IDK about Zona I can't help but think he is the real life Kenny Powers, he does act coked-up at times

Mercer is a good dude and works hard. If it wasn't Mercer it would be someone else up there for people to gripe about.
