I realize that most of the snakes we see around here are non venomous but dang I sure don't like those suckers.

guys. worst lake ever in 50 years of bank fishing i HAVE SEEN IS is Bachman lake in dallas near Love Fiels Airport . I saw three water mocs on the bank i stepped over in 200 yds, Never GOING BACK !! F that !!

Is that a cotton mouth? Definitely Has the fat-stubby tail but the markings look very different.

Is that a cotton mouth? Definitely Has the fat-stubby tail but the markings look very different. No. Its a Rat Snake and the biggest I have ever seen in my life. Also the first I have ever seen in the water.

^^^^^harmless non venomous Yep! But try and make that decision in a split second when you accidentally lay your rod on him. I bent down to pick up my rod and there it was, less than 2 feet from it. Was it there all along? Idk Gotta pay attention.

I saw four snakes at Bethany the other night.. worst year I have seen for snakes in a long time. Three were non-venomous, but the last one we saw right after sunset was a cottonmouth. First time I had ever seen that at Bethany.
Be careful y'all, I called up TPWD and told them because there are so many children in that park playing under that little bridge or in the bushes.
Headed there again tonight, I'll see if I see more/snap pics

I agree tgere has been more snakes this year. I recently had a water moc cottonmouth attack my catfish that i had on a stringer. He wanted to eat it. Biggest cottonmouth id ever seen, prolly about 3-3 1/2 feet. I wasnt able to kill it, but didnt know if i should eat the fish due to the venom. Ill post some pics. This was at Lake Nasworthy

Snakes are your friends (unless you like rats, etc.). They are wonderful, fascinating animals. It's sad that some knuckle-dragging clods kill every snake they see for absolutely no good reason. Check out this adorable country gal: The vid should start at a pretty interesting point, but the whole thing is worth watching. The lady has guts and a true thirst for adventure.
