have been to picachos twice and el salto and comedero with ron speed......couldn't ask for a better outfitter.....the accomodations, food and the fishing was first rate....
we left picachos about 4:30 and got to El Cid in about 1 1/2 hours....really nice and reasonably priced ($95.00 per night) hotel plus great views of the ocean......you can walk through the lobby to the El Morro hotel next door and they have a really nice restaurant facing the beach.I had steak and it was really good...cost was about $25.00

Any topwater or shallow water action lately? Seems like the reports Ive seen lately have been in 12-15+ feet of water.

FWIW.....last week of march,my buddy and I fished 7 days and caught and put 905 fish in the boat...we had several hundred more bites/fish on that we didn't get in the boat...I don't think it made much difference what you threw nor the color...we stuck with mostly plastics...5-6inch senkos and zoom magnum trick worms...we used mostly 5/16th weights and 5/0 hooks and we went through a bunch of them(I'm guessing we both broke off at least 20 times)...there's a lot of wood cover in the lake and you get a lot of bites from smaller fish that grab the senko/worm by the tail so when you set the hook, you are likely to jerk it into something wood and end up having to break off and re-tie.....we used 20lb flouro and it worked well....
biggest fish we had was right at 7lbs but I'd estimate that at least 50% maybe more were hard pulling 2 1/2 to 4 1/2 lb fish....

I carried my reels in my carry on bag and put all fishing tackle in my checked bag.....

We just left Picachos and the fishing was good but not excellent. There were several slow times around mid day it seems like. We fished 2.5 days and caught 135, 105 and 68 (half day). The biggest fish was 6.6 lbs and was caught on a junebug 8 Magnum Lizard. We caught a lot of solid fish on big 1oz black/blue jigs. We probably could have caught more fish on senkos and lizards but its seems like the big jigs produced better quality fish overall. We also caught several on square bill sexy shad cranks. The camp and food were both great! Watch out for rattlesnakes at the camp when you go! 😳

Are you on your way to El Salto? I'm fishing both lakes next week.

how many fish per day does it take to get an excellent rating?
