My family recently bought a house in a brand new neighborhood with a brand new pond behind it, the pond is 2 acres and was stocked a year ago with bluegill largemouth and catfish by the neighborhood idk how many of each , but I would really like for this pond to be a bass and bluegill haven for my kids to catch fish rapidly and not get bored and so I could do some bass fishing for myself, is it alright if I catch fish some where and bring them to my pond to help stock it and get some nice size largemouth in there, would that mess up the food chain or something or make something mess up? If not should I keep a bass to bluegill ratio to keep the number of each relative?

As far as legalities, I believe what you are asking is legal in Texas...but may not be advisable.

If the pond was stocked by someone who knows what they are doing, presumably it is in a state of balance or near that. Adding bass may destroy that balance. One of the biggest problems of managing southern ponds is too many bass. This can result in stunted fish. In order to maintain a balance and to achieve high weights in bass often the pond manager will remove small bass.

So, adding bass may be counter productive. Keeping track of relative weights on your fish is an excellent management tool and I recommend it. You may find instead of adding bass, removing them may offer the best management option.

it is recommended that you remove 40lbs of fish per surface acre per year.

Wont all the bass be small if its only a year old though? Is one stocking enough for ponds or do most ponds stock it multiple times?

Is it your pond or the neighborhood's? Might make a difference in if you can put fish in it or not.

Our lake just had an electro shock survey done. One thing the company that performed the survey stated was that lakes and ponds are never the same year to year. Less than two years ago, our bass were super heavy per length due to the super abundant breeding tilapia forage. Tilapia get sluggish in winter cold water and the bass have no trouble feasting on them. The tilapia population crashed during the extra cold winter of 2018 in our lake and now the bass are mostly skinny, but we are getting better recruitment of small bass. Cover is in short supply and the bluegill have little refuge to escape the marauding bass. We also got a recommendation to now remove bass and find a way to increase cover and stock forage fish like bluegill. With the tilapia mostly gone, aquatic vegetation is slowly rebounding. Then our bass have value due to good genetics and are in demand for stocking other water bodies.

Lots of moving parts in a lake or pond and you can do one thing like stocking bass and mess up some other fish like bluegills. All the fish are connected to each other in some way.

I'd try to figure out who in the neighborhood directed the stocking and see if you can join their pond management team if there is one.

I'd advise against stocking anything other than forage minnows/shiners in there right now. A few big adult largemouth could really screw the thing up at this stage of its development.

I would not recommend stocking anything. Patience is your friend.

In your OP you said it was stocked last year. I would first start with asking neighbors questions

The first step is to fish the pond and find out what's in it. Keep a log so you know what you're dealing with. See if the neighbors are OK and or even on board with what you want to do. See if there is a record of what has been done and what was stocked.

Well! I never try to do something Iike that, but I think it would something ones can do, but you need to research how to populate fish in your pond and other things so they actually start reproducing themselves...

They'll reproduce on their own, just make sure they have food to eat.
