Yes, bummer.....but gotta get her fixed. What are my most sensible options? This is the first time that I've ever blown one so I pretty much accept that it has happened.

Thanks, in advance, for your input.

Okie

That EFI motor is a very good motor to rebuild so that is definitely an option.

Just cannot see investing so much on a 20yr old rig.....trying to get by cheapest as possible and still be able to fish.

Rebuild that motor. U can also buy drop on powerheads for less then 2k if u find right deal. The 2.5 motors are cheap to fix and run a long time!!

You can usually find some great deals on used motors that are in great shape. I bought a 2012 Mercury ProXS 250 in 2015 for $7000. Ran great when I had it. Still running great today.

I had that engine till about 5 years ago, blew powerhead, had the guy at cedar creek rebuild it. It was about 4500 to rebuild if I recall. That was 6 years ago so...... And too bad yours isn't rated for 250 cause I could be talked into selling my 2012 pro xs. I kinda like that 4 stroke

I have a 1991 200XRi that I have maintained myself, and it is still a good-running engine. Steel cylinder sleeves! The enngine is still operating on the original oil injection unit too! If I blew it I would probably buy the replacement powerhead.

I think there are two things owners need to do to keep these engines running: 1. Don't let it overheat (keep the waterpump serviced). 2. Don't over-rev.

Violating either of these can damage the nylon oil pump drive gear on the crankshaft, then you have no oil injection!

See if you can get ahold of Ronnie 817-366-3403 over at Texas machine works he does good work and usually a pretty quick turn around. He rebuilt my Efi 225 for $2400 and is still going strong after 3 years. It's been awhile since I've talked to him so hopefully that's still a good number.

Its my understanding that you can get a powerhead for about 4k. I would think you can get someone (assuming that don't know how) to install it for $1000. -$1500. But, if you walk in to a dealership, and say I need a powerhead installed, how much? Id bet its $7,500+ Good luck.

Mercury reconditioned powerhead, or find a competent mechanic to rebuild yours. Whomever performs the service must determine what caused the original engine to fail.

Phish Whisperer ,I also have a 91 (purchased about 1 month ago) ,and just finished removing the tangled, melted mess of a nylon oil pump. Also had to replace 1 piston and crankshaft bearings. All because of over heating. I learned that pistons, piston rods, rod bearings, and head gaskets for a 91 Merc. or Mariner, WILL NOT ,fit any other year model. Merc. /Mariner.

Ronnie mentioned above is fantastic, or call me for a quicker swap. I๏ฟฝve got a 200 efi and a 2015 200 Pro XS ready to go. There would be some trade in on your motor.
