Alright, I just got off the phone with TPWD's office in Haltom City. I asked them this question:
If I shoot a boat load of rough fish (buffs, gar, carp) and I wanted to dump them on my property to be used later as fertilizer, is this lawful?
TPWD's response: Sir, there is not an issue with dumping them in a hole on private property as long as there aren't alligator gar in the catch. Alligator gar have been recently placed under protection. Educate yourself on these new regulations before hitting the water. Also be advised that dumping these fish around boat ramps, parks, or on public roadways is illegal. Other than that, good luck with your bowfishing!
I'll admit, you guys had me questioning this issue. Good to know that y'all were mistaken.

I find it amusing how quick you are to declare victory over this argument. It's like you care more about trying to win an internet argument then actually educating yourself. I have personally spoken to three people, two of them being game wardens that say otherwise. Do you think telling a game warden that someone at the TPWD said it was okay is going to keep you from getting a ticket?
If that's what you were told, then we need to dig deeper and get some clarification from the TPW on the issue. If all you are worried about is winning a forum argument and not seeking the the truth as your post implies, then I can't help you.
Marc-62, have you been reading anything I have said? Apparently not. I never said I had any problem with bowfishing legally. You are allowed to keep 5 a day on Falcon because they have been deemed overpopulated on that specific reservoir, which we have no business wasting tax dollars managing anyway since half of it is in Mexico. Good job bringing up random arguments like the other bowfishermen that have nothing to do with the discussion.

Slim, when I asked the question initially it was a lady who answered the phone. She wasn't 100% sure so she put me on hold and got a game warden to speak to me. He answered my question with certainty. Sure it's about winning an argument, which I did. But more importantly, I wanted to make sure my interpretation of the law was correct and I wasn't going to end up in trouble. I'm sorry you were mistaken.... If you need further clarification, as I've said before, do your own homework. Good luck in your fishing!

I definitely wouldn't lie on here to win an argument with someone who is irrelevant and risk getting fellow bowfishermen in trouble by posting misinformation if that's what you're implying...

There is no argument won by either party here. You are getting one answer, and Ive gotten another. So what it comes down to is the interpretation of the game warden. The wanton waste law is pretty clear on the terminology. I guess what Im saying is this; do what you want, but dont be shocked if you get a ticket for it. And its going to be hard to argue that ticket. Depending on which game warden you get it is going to make a big difference. I was told by two different ones that a person would be fined for it. So lets just leave it at that until we get some further clarification, such as a change in the wording of the law.

That works, and I will say between the TPWD discussion with a game warden today and 20 years of doing what I do without an issue I feel pretty safe as far as ticketing goes... I told y'all I would make that phone call and I did. Txmulti also said he'd call. Let's see if he did and reports back as well.

I can always tell when an opponent has no ammo left, By the way, when they resort to unfounded and uncalled for personal attacks. In case you forgot, we are still waiting for your data to backup the claims you made about our native and naturalized fish, which is what started this argument. When you can prove me wrong on that front, you can successfully claim your victory.
