Hey TFF- I'm not Doug Hannon so I could use some education on how a Bass Behaves to being removed from a bed? (Male and or Female)
So I was wondering if you Catch a Bass on a Bed during a tournament or other...
Put it in the Live well and go to the Weigh in/Marina for Pictures and Weigh in...If it's released at the Ramp or area far away from its Bed... What does the Male or Female do???
I understand the Male and Female have different Roles altogether in the Spawning process...but I'm interested in understanding exactly what takes place?
MALE: 1st he makes a suitable bed by fanning with his tail (Gravel or hard bottom Preferred right?) ...then looks for a female and shows her the Bedding area? FEMALE: She Agrees to Bed in the Area with him...Lays eggs while Male does his thing...Then the female leaves right?
And the male hangs around and defends the bed or do they both Stay?
But if you catch a PRESPAWN Female on a bed or around a bedding area-Does she attempt to travel back to the same area? Or does she wait for another male to "Hook up with"?
Also will the Male attempt to travel back to the bed area...or does he try with another female or is he "Done for the Night"? (read between the lines)
I hope my questions make sense...
*I ask because I fish a lake that is Separated be a road/overflow (One lake drains into the other obviously...but only when very high...It will flow over the road)
So I noticed a tournament last week...The tournament took place on one lake and the Weigh in and Release took place on the Smaller lake
The Fish were literally released in a separate body of water...WITHOUT a way of returning to the their beds or even the general area
How would you say this would affect the spawning process and chances of a successful fingerlings being born?
Is the Bed going to be overrun by "Bed Predators" such as Bream, crayfish etc?
Thank ya'll!
Simon Peter said to them "I am going fishing" They said "We are going fishing also." -JOHN 21:3

If those are two separate water bodies with two different names, that would be illegal in Texas

I suspect a lot of eggs and fry are lost to the livewell. Whether it be for tournaments or people taking fish to the marina for an official weight. Probably not enough to hurt the fishery, but there are a lot of orphans when fry guarders and bucks are kept for any length of time. The only way to erase all doubt of human interference would be to ban tournaments from mid March- mid May.

tx strampton like they do in a lot of northeastern states. Here they don't and the bass fishing is fine, there they do and it sucks.

No. It's the ones that get 2 or 3 limits a day or have 8-10lbers hanging on a line with some 4s and 5s mixed in that do the damage. Taking the proper limit of small fish out of a lake is a good thing

Taking the proper limit of small fish out of a lake is a good thing I agree 100%, but the guys that keep a handful of small fish are also constantly trolled on that site by 1 person in particular.
