Just watched Ott Defoe's Hunt for Monster Bass. He had never been to Whitney before and stated his best five fish weighed close to 40 lbs. I fished Whitney back in the day and remember when it was hurt by the Golden Algae bloom. Has it become some kind of super lake since then?

I'm not surprised, I fish whitney on occasion, less now as I moved north some, and I would compare it for big fish to ray bob, when it's good it's really good and that happens in certain windows. It can be almost impossible sometimes for good ones. I think it has alot better numbers of small fish than ray bob and for sure gets less pressure.

Definitely hit or miss. You have to go through a lot of water to find good fish at all times of the year.

Whitney is a hidden gem in my eyes, I have had very few bad outings there.

I make a couple trips to Whitney every year because of the great striper fishing. I've always been surprised with accidental quality bass catches, especially when weaving 4" chart wildeye shad through the shallow beanstalks during the shad spawn. hint hint

Yeah, 40 lb sacks there are pretty much the standard. Just a routine day of fishing on Whitney. That's why I usually try for the 9 lb sack. Not many guys pulling that off right now, what with all the 10 lbers to be caught.

I think they are already there. Got to the McCown ramp Saturday morning just before 7am. Hardly anywhere to park. Don't know how much of it was just holiday weekend traffic but every ramp parking lot I went by were full

LOL I know thats right, I've seen more bass boat traffic there the last few weeks than I ever have, and the fishing was much better last spring. Guess I know why now laugh , I bet that point has been beat to death bunch of lemmings.

I watched that show too.. very intently! At the very beginning, he was fishing late November.. throwing an umbrella rig around the mouth of a little creek near the dam. The video is spectacular.. at the same time he was whacking big bass.. he was getting stripers too. when they stopped hitting the umbrella, he threw a DT16 and got bit on that too. He talked in the beginning about how some times in the fall.. it just hit that he catches big bass.. for dang sure he did on that trip to Whitney.
