Hello fellow anglers and drop-shotr's,

I wanted to share something that most of you may have known about or this might be new to you. This is a different way to rig up a drop shot that I have found works and also gives your presentation something unique that the fish may not have seen before or will be able to easily relate to more life-like.

A few years ago I had heard about this modification and it would take a typical drop shot rig and replace the leader from the hook to the weight with this "elastic" fishing line. This line is stretchy or bouncy, whatever you want to call it. What this would allow you to do is have the weight stay in contact with the bottom while allowing you to give the bait a bouncing or erratic movement. Since the line to the weight stretches, it allows you to impart some movement while keeping the presentation in place. This can give the fish a longer time to strike and has a more unique movement.

I will not go into the details about what size/type hook, size/type weight, type/weight of line or what bait to use, this is just a simple modification to your current favourite drop shot setup. Below you can see an example of this setup as well as where I was able to find some affordable "Elastic String". This was found at a craft store Hobby Lobby. I like them because you can get a 40% off coupon and this string comes in different colors and thicknesses all for just $2.99 before the 40% discount.

Link to Elastic String: https://www.hobbylobby.com/Beads-Je...Elasticity-Stretch-Cord---1mm/p/80915175

I hope that this helps and please feel free to ask any questions or share your own experience with this modification.

The Recoil Rig is where i saw this unique technique, the video is cheesy, but explains how having an elastic cord can impart a different kind of movement. So this is like a DIY recoil rig

It will still catch fish if you do it wrong but he idea of a dropshot is to keep the weight on the bottom and let the lure work above it on a slightly slack line.
With a 1/8 to 1/4 ounce weight I don't see how you are going to get a line that will stretch with only that little weight holding the line down.

More than likely if you feel the weight you are bouncing it. Spongy line kind of goes away from the idea of tiny lines.

I will say that I was sceptical at first until I tried it out for myself. It is just a different way to rig up a drop shot and once you get your hands on the elastic cord mentioned, you will have a better idea of how the rig can work.

As much as I like the "traditional" rigs for fishing, I always like to find/try something new that might be a little different or askew from the traditional rig...especially when it is something you can make yourself with basic terminal tackle and everyday items with out have to buy a "special" rig or kit from a tackle company.

Either way, this is just my piece of advice I am passing along since it worked well for me, take it as you wish.

*** this is what is wrong with today's world ****

a man thinks he has a great idea
wants to share it with is fellow fishermen / wants to help the world
thinks that everyone will benefit by it

*** then a bunch of Debbie-Downers come along and basically call the idea and the man ------ whatever ***
if you don't see the point then why say anything at all ?
why would you throw water on the man and his idea just for sharing ?

too many people in this world today just love to put folks down because they share something that maybe you just don't agree with OR
you just .. REALLY DON'T SEE THE POINT .
if you don't see the point --- just keep walking, don't stop and talk about it.

Thank you, I appreciate that. All I am wanting to do is just pass on the info.

Crazy ideas are how new baits get invented. Some work some don't. In 1970 we were fishing in Florida and not having much luck. A boat was approching us down a canal. I got a package of red 10 inch jelly worms as a gift that I thought would never catch any fish. I put one on as a joke and promptly caught a 7 lber then a 6. Dad wanted one and caught a 10.5 his personal best. Of course the boat approching wanted to know what we were using. We thought it was the color red was what they wanted and painted some crankbaits red and they caught fish also. Those red baits worked everywhere. We kept that to ourselves and now red is common on baits but I stumbled on it as a joke. Don't stop trying new things and don't criticize people that think out of the box. I tried putting a sinker 3 foot above a weightless worm to fish it deeper and didn't have any luck. 15 years later it became all the rage
You just never know.
