Thinking about trying my luck on Tawakoni this weekend for first time. Not asking for honey holes, just best baits and depth to focus on. Thx for any help given.

Typically shallow almost all year, but now especially. Texas rigs and square bills.

Always, but especially this time of yr, fish shallow...from the bank to maybe 4/5 ft max. Nothing magic about baits...whatever matches the water. I have had most success on crankbaits, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, shaky heads (1/4 oz), and 4 inch ringtail worms. In the right places, popping frogs and buzzbaits. If you are unfamiliar with Twak, it can get really mean in any unprotected water as the wind approaches 20 mph and above. To avoid having to run in big water/high winds this werkend, consider launching at Sky Point and staying in that cove, or launch in Rabbit Cove and fish there all day or until wind subsides. You could also launch at Duck Cove marina and stay in Duck.
Good luck. Let us know how you do.

Thx for the help fellas. Looks like the wind is borderline right now. If I make it out I will report back.

If windy, take the above advice and dont run the lake too much. There are ramps around the lake that will keep you in good areas. I've done well with a basic white (shad look) spinnerbait up shallow around grass, willows, bushes, docks.

Thx criglizard too. Think I will throw a spinnerbait, chatterbait, and a T-rig....creature or worm? Don't think i have any squarebills.

Creature... if you reel it too fast away from your shallow target, you might catch some white bass too.

As far back as I can remember, have always been told if your trolling motor isnt kicking up mud, youre too deep.

Fish whatever brush you can find with a jig or texas rigged craw

Thx for the additional help. I like that it's a good shallow bite because I never really learned how to fish deeper water. Good luck if y'all get out on this glorious Easter weekend!

Deal I've always experienced with Tawakoni is to keep moving. It seems you just have to find that right stretch and then you can catch them.

Didn't bass fish...buddy talked me into trying for hybrids early, but no luck. Was pretty crowded water later though when I was going to try. Found out Media Bass was having a tourney. So tried catfish and only caught about 5 channels. Oh well it was nice just getting out. Hope to bass fish soon.
