The Academy on the west side of Fort Worth has a lot of stuff, but I usually can't find what' I'm looking for. For example, finding a package of Baby Brush Hogs in JuneBug or Watermelon Red is a rare thing. They do not keep the department organized at all. You have to look in 3 separate areas if you are looking for hooks. The only reason I go in that store is because it's so close to my work. I think the priority in that store is on the guns, not on fishing.

The store in Waco has a guy that said "if it was up to him he would only sale guns, that fishing stuff is a pain in the rear". the Waco store is big on shoes.

They have a department manager that orders for the department. The stocked inventory is reflective on each manager. They probably should be stocking the same gear but if one doesn't want to order it or to keep up with his inventory the store will suck. that may have been true when they were family owned

And welcome to another episode of Deep Thoughts, by Frank the Tank........ Are they pretty much identical? Or does each store get to order what they want? For instance, from a tackle perspective: would Texarkana have the same things as Monroe, La ? Pretty much? Thanks We've got to get you a second job.

It's funny you mentioned Wichita Falls. My wife and I were there recently on family business so we stopped in the WF location. I was looking for a specific reel and went to the counter and stood there for almost ten minutes and no one was around. I walked over to the gun counter and there were two employees sitting down at their computers. I asked them for help and they requested someone for me and I waited at least ten more minutes and no one ever came over to get the reel out of the case for me. I finally went and found my wife and left. Ordered it online and not from Academy.

Longview is amazing, Tyler not so much. Tyler is (just) ok, Waxahachie not so much. Tyler does (or did) have Dobyns rods, not so at Waxahachie

Just really depends on the employees, if the people running the fishing department are actually avid fisherman and know the trends its good if not its bad. I've seen our local one go up and down over the years used to be amazing, then got bad, now its better again. Its the same with walmart, I was at one in louisiana that absolutely blew me away how good it was, reminded me of a custom tackle shop in east texas and then there are our local walmarts and the fishing selection absolutly sucks.

I drive right by the one in Weatherford on my way to the others in ft worth. Weatherford is super horrible at stocking fishing stuff and never ever has enough people to check you out. But there are plenty of groups of employees doing other things?
And it doen't matter when you go in the store. Spots on the shelves stay empty.

I.have shopped there since the store was opened and I have never seen a reel from the case moved.

When Academy decides to open a new store, they use your purchases from existing stores by using your zip code to purchases data. Some of the new stores are actually smaller in inventory stocked. It depends entirely on purchases made by people in the new stores zip code made at surrounding stores.
