Tobacco is unhealthy and significantly increases health care costs; but as long as it is legal to purchase without a prescription; an 18yo is an adult.

Are these the same geniuses that stopped the sale of vape products in convenience stores because of their accessibility to youth but left alone the sale of tobacco that had the same age requirement?
This thread needs more cowbell ...

They are also looking at increasing the sales tax a penny so that property taxes will theoretically stabilize or go down.
I'd like to see the math on that one.

Im always skeptical of another new law on the books, but this one might reap some benefits in the long run. I can think of a couple of hundred more urgent things the Texas legislature should be considering that would make a bigger difference, though.

I think placing age restrictions on legal adults is completely bassackwards. Move the legal age of adulthood to 21 if you think 18-21 yr olds aren't capable of making these decisions for themselves.

Yes, our wonderful statewide political heroes. Always wanting to legislate morality, and pass more nanny state laws that we dont need. Ridiculous.
Team wolfs I had to perform. It took a minute to get it all in my mouth and another five to swallow it all.

I find it ironic anytime these moral perverts take the "high road". Again, What is legal age to an adult? And some of these morons want to lower the voting age---

If the goal is to stop tobacco use, there's a very simple method to accomplish it. Raise the legal age to buy tobacco by one year every year until it reaches age 35. No one who can currently buy it would be deprived of the "right" to buy tobacco, and most people when they reach 35 won't be interested in starting. In a couple of decades tobacco use would plummet. Of course it would mean a huge revenue hit for the state in lost taxes...
