Headed to Granger easter weekend and looking to do some crappie fishing. Bringing my boat and have never been on the lake. Anything I should lookout for when running the lake? Also anywhere I should concentrate my search for crappie?

not alot of hazzards, its a big mud hole. just be careful if u decide to go in the river for stumps. several areas where it gets shallow real fast, where u think it isnt. just pay attention to the depth. Somehow I wound up deep into a shallow flat one time, and my old merc cut a ditch abt 40 yards long to get out of it. now, for crappie.. havent been in a while, but there has historically been alot of pressure on that small lake. lots of undersized fish. WAY too many small brushpiles. better fish will be on smaller, harder to find " personal piles". there used to be alot of piles near the dam, theres a shelf, likely the old roadbed that pretty much runs the length of the dam, theres a slight drop off, maybe 2 feet, off that shelf {old road}.. theres piles on the top; and the drop off. I would cruise along there, and mark as many piles as you can find, then fish them. basically anyplace in that lake you would think someone has had an inkling to put something there, theres probably something there.. if your lucky you will pick up a keeper here a keeper there, dont expect to get on a spot and load the boat, it aint happening. you may have to fish 50 spots to get 10 keepers. small red/chartreuse/ orange hair jigs in 1/16 and 32nd oz work ok. if its real muddy, orange and black,. use berkley crappie nibbles too.
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

They still might be in the creeks. Friday caught a limit in a creek, today caught 5 keepers at the boat ramp. Lake is up 2.5 feet now. By Easter is a good guess. Just my .oo2!!

I've been fishing in the river and doing good for the past month. 2 weeks ago we were drowning minnows in a hole we frequent- we kept 37 fish between 12-14". I went back to the same spot later that week and couldn't catch a legal fish! We moved off that spot and was graphing fish on si. We set up and immediately started landing keepers, I caught a 3# white crappie@ 16" (my personal best here). This lake normally has a ton of dinks but the spawn is an interesting time to fish. Be super careful!!! There a ton of stumps- even in the deeper water - stay patient & go slow if you go into the river . Keep moving till you find them. Feel free to pm me if you need more insight.

A little update on when I went out to Granger last week. I have no idea how the fishing was! Never got the boat off the trailer because of the wind. Camping was nice except for the 2:30am cussing rage and then the 6:00am car alarm going off. Did see a few keepers caught at Wilson Fox fishing pier. Reports were mainly short fish caught.
