I took my Maintenance Guy and My IT employee out on the boat for an "employee appreciation day" yesterday. These guys work very hard for me so I was hoping for a good day.

The temp was 82 degrees and the water was 66 degrees. Winds were calm so I was kinda worried. At about 5:15 pm we found them in the middle of the lake on a drop-off. Of course, when we started slamming them we got surrounded by boats. We had very few smalls. Several people pulled up to jig and cast but we were able to navigate around them. I don't know how they did we were too busy landing fish.

As the fishing died off ( This is the best part) the water calmed more and all the boats pulled away. I figured the bite was over as well so we drove back slowly. I saw some birds flashing white in the fading sunlight in what I call the canyons. We pulled up on them and scrambled for our rods. The big hybrids were jumping out of the water some all the way as the water boiled. We were all alone. It was about 7:45 pm and the light was beginning to fade. You could see the sparkling of the shad scales as the hybrids drove the shad into the air. It looked like glitter scattered across the water as the sun turned the water gold. We caught fish for another 30-40 min then finally called it quits.

We kept a few because my Maintenance Guy wanted to do a fish fry for his family. What a day. My IT had never caught a fish and he landed a 9lb 10oz hybrid that we actually weighed. I think he is ruined for fishing now.
