All I have to say is you don’t get wet in gore Tex..... I got wet in my Gore-Tex BPS 100 suit yesterday. Nothing major, but it isn’t impervious to any storm. Lol. I’d say I was 85% dry, but 15% wet in all the wrong places. Don’t wear grey sweatpants underneath them, then think you’re gonna stop at whataburger on the way home without someone thinking you’ve wet yourself.

^this^ best one I have ever owned There isn’t a single rain suit on the market that will keep you dry and warm like Simms. No one can hold a candle to them. They’re also backed by the best customer service in the fishing clothing industry by far. You guys crack me up if rain or cold bothers you stay home . A little water never killed anyone . Besides not many people want to spend 1500 for a rain suit . H20 works fine like mentioned above.

I've worn the frogg togg firebelly suit in the pouring rain many times and stayed completely dry. For the price, I'm happy with it.

It did me for my light summer rain suit, it worked better after the nik wash that it did new. If your gear has gore tex some will put in the in the clothes drier for awhile, the heat is supposed to re-activate it.

There are a lot of good suits, but no good ones are cheap. People that claim otherwise don't know what a good suit can do. If you don't find a really good sale you will have to spend a minimum of $400 for a bib and jacket combo and likely more like $600. Also forget pants and only go with bibs. They do not have to be GoreTex, but they have to be a similar breathable material. I really like my Gill suit because it is totally water proof and lighter than most. It has kept me completely dry running 55 MPH for 40 minutes on Rayburn in a serious downpour that included some light hail. I really probably should have even gone that fast to be honest. I was wearing a full face shield over my jackets hood or the water would have gotten in with all the wind driven pressure. That day turned very ugly very fast and I just needed to get back to the ramp. I've had my Gill suit for 10 years and it is still as good as day one. I also really like Simms. I used to really like the Guide Wear and 100 MPH suits, but they quality seems different that it was 20 years ago. I don't have experience with other brands.
Now finding a good pair of water proof shoes to that aren't too bulky and allow you to feel your boats deck and the trolling motor foot pedal is a different story. I'm still searching for something I really like. It has to be at least 3/4 height to get a good interlock with your bibs to be truly effective. So far I've had to sacrifice feel to be totally water proof. Try the XtraTuf boots. They make you look like a elf but they are fairly comfortable and will keep you feet absolutely dry. You can wear some warm socks in them if needed. I saw the deckhands in Venice,La using them. I got a pair and they work great in a lot of situations from rain bass fishing to cleaning the boat in saltwater. They go on and off pretty easy. X2 on the XtraTuf boots. Super light and comfortable and 100% dry. Ugly as all get out but they work perfect.

A major factor with the cheaper suits is that they don't breath. If you have an H20 suit on in cold weather and stand still in a pouring rain you are going to stay completely dry. Hence some guys think they work great. However, take that same suit in warm weather in rain where you are being active and casting, and you are probably going to get soaked. Two reasons:
1. You start to sweat and the suit holds the moisture in. I've wound up so sweat soaked from a cheap rain suit that I might as well of not had one on. 2. Cheap rain suits usually do a really poor job of sealing out water in critical areas. The big one for fishermen is usually at the wrists. You need a suit that allows you to tighten down the cuffs so water can't get in.
All this said, the best suit out there hands down is the Simms Pro Dry. It's embarrassingly expensive and worth every penny in my opinion. If you hunt around and are patient you can usually find it 10-20% off. Even then, make sure you hide that receipt from the wife!

Didn't see but one mention of the GILL suits. They are sold locally and I'm looking for a gift suit for my son. Like someone said I'd like to at least put hands on before buying.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it !

The key to staying dry is preparing BEFORE it starts raining. The Gill FG2 Jacket has two layers of "protection" on the sleeves. The first layer is a neoprene type material with an elastic strap. Tighten this strap and velcro it down. Then the outer shell has an elastic strap that you have to tighten. Otherwise, you can have the best rain gear out there and if you don't prepare right, you're still going to get wet. Pilot error basically.
I think the comments about "get what you pay for" are dead on. Good stuff costs good money.

100 MPH suit is great. It keeps me bone dry other than the freakin sleeves. The neoprene sleeves are TIGHT but water still gets in. I don't care what suit you get, water is gonna find its way down to your elbows when you are fishing in the rain (My solution is wristbands, been doing that for years) Saturday on Rayburn, I had hail falling and driving rain and stayed completely dry. Only bad thing about the 100 mph suit, if its above 55-60 degrees, its like you are in the jungle as it gets very hot!! Jungle-butt will set in quickly if you wear em too long and its hot outside.
Everything on your bass boat is broken......You just don't know it yet.

Up-Date i just ordered a set of AFTCO Hydronaut Jacket and Bibs. You ignored basically all advice on this thread an ordered a suit that isn't GoreTex. It's going to leak and it's not going to breath. Read the reviews out there on this product. It leaks through the zippers. It's heavy. You are going to sweat to death in Texas.
