I need to go back just for memories sake, my bud caught his PB on one trip there. Haven't been since 2005 but yes I've heard since they killed all the grass its a sucky mudhole now.

Definatly not was it was 20 something years ago! It opened over 30years ago. How time flies! The last decade has been tough on that lake. Always debatable as to the problems with an over abundance of hydrilla and balancing property owners, pleasure boating, fishermen.....but the management Purtis Creeks weed growth will always perplex me. Non-debatable: a complete mismanagement of a lake that was built(with my tax dollars) for recreation with an emphasis on trophy bass fishing! mad hammer confused cry

That is a very nice way of saying they turned it into a mud hole with absolutely nothing in the way of good fishing

The guy that does the KRLD morning radio fishing show on the weekends used to guide there and maybe he still does but I've heard him talk about it in frustration much like the people on lake austin did when they killed all the grass there too.

Back in the mid to late 90's early 00' it was my favorite lake in Texas to fish. Now, it is at the bottom of my list to fish. Don't fish "memories" you will be severly dissapointed. Talk about runining a lake, TPW did that to Purtis Creek. I agree with another poster, go to Athens instead.

Feel the same about how TPW ruined Purtis Creek bass fishing. It was gem of a lake that they began for the sole purpose of creating a trophy bass lake. When it had grass and lily pads, we loved fishing there and caught several fish in the 9, 10 lb. size I still can't believe they would do something so detrimental as stocking it with grass carp when they had much better options. I still think some Einstein should have been fired for that decision.
