Getting a new to me boat tomorrow and want to add a TM with spot lock or anchor feature. I will mostly crappie and white bass fish

16’ champion. Currently has Motorguide 45#
12v on it.

I would like to buy used. Any thought or things I should be aware of when getting this ? I will buy new if I need to but wanted to poll the experts first.

Not looking to link to my graph , but will need to add a unit to this TM which is why I prefer used.

A Ultrex will work both deep and shallow water, power poles are limited to shallow water. I wouldn't buy used for either.

Yep, get the MK Ultrex or Terrova, just know if you buy used, the Gen2 has better spot lock.

I have the Motorguide Xi5. Works great for spotlock, don’t need power poles because of it. If you are getting a new boat you should really link the TM with the graph even though you said you didn’t want to. You will be missing out on lots of functionality/features as a result. Find a school of fish on the graph, tap the screen and the boat goes to where you tap on the screen. Either way the i trolling motors are great.

Get a good smart trolling motor that will spot lock you. If you are spending the money on a new trolliingmotor I think you’re crazy to not spend the extra couple hundred bucks and get the linked version. You may think you don’t want it now but why would you not want to drive by a brush pile, drop a way point on fish or crappie in a brush pile, and then have the TM do all the thinking and take you exactly to where that brush pile is a know your TM is hovering over what you marked?? Ipilot is a great start but ipilot link is such an advantage for a marginal amount more.

Just my two cents....

I didn't want the Link version of MK Spot-lock (Terrova I-link 55lbs). But got it anyway cause I was having a hard time finding one in stock at that moment. Sure glad I got the Link version now! Works wonders with the Helix 10 si! banana

I've had my X5i for over 2 years now and this past Christmas my wife bought me the Gateway kit to connect it to my Elite 9ti on the dash. Didn't realize how much I was missing out for the 2 years.

Just added an ulterra 80# thrust. Been out 6 times and threw my anchor in the garage after the second trip. Holds you smoothly on spot while in 20 knot winds. Use it for bow fishing , Hybrid, and bass.
Anchor lock / spot lock is well worth the expense.
