Denison Dam is on fire. Go and get you some. Daiwa SS Minnow, Live Target flippin shad, Rapala twitchin minnow and xrap. Keep the tailrace clean, stay within your limits, and dont bum rush a guy and fish a$$ to elbow with him just cuz you see him hook up and you're not. Just walk over and ask for advice and tips. The fish are moving all up and down that river. #getbent

Also, big surf rods and giant corks are not needed this time of year. Save yourself the exhaustion. #tipoftheday

It's definitely a nice one! Grass Carp aren't normally predatory fish, they eat almost exclusively vegetation. Common Carp and Buffalo are both omnivorous, and will take small baitfish and even flies! Fly-fishing for carp is taking off in popularity right now, and targeting them like Europeans do is growing as well!

For the long casts, you want a light 9'-11' surf rod and a reel like a Daiwa Ballistic LT thats light and has major line capacity. Lighter the setup (usually means higher end gear), the better since youll be making hundreds of casts with heavy lures and such. Cant play ball if you dont pay. St croix mojo surf rod is a good mid entry level rod

I went at it again today...no big fish, but numbers were there.

Got em again! No big mamas. All fish were btwn 18-26". Cork and jig was working moderately well. Jerkbait, swimbaits were outcatching cork and jig 2-1. Tried a topwater for a bit but no takers.

Most surf rod ratings are bogus. Youll either just have to trust the reviews of those that have used them or go and feel them out yourself. A MH power and Moderate Fast to fast action tip works well for me at the tailrace and off the jetties down on the coast. I usually throw 1.5oz-3.5oz on my surf rods. I have other rods to throw pretty much everything else, and i rarely throw anything over 3.5oz(lures).
