I am considering buying a minn Kota talon and I would like to know how valuable this would be crappie fishing. I can definitely seen the benefits during the spring but I am wondering about the rest of the year. I am just getting in to crappie fishing so I need the pros help before spending that much money. Thanks

IMO it would only be good for spring time and shooting shallow docks. Not sure what part of the state you are in but in DFW it would only be useful from late Feb through mid May. Rest of the year the fish are too deep. If you don't have a spot lock TM, then that is where I would spend my money. It's like having a talon no matter where you go.

I have a Power Pole and wouldnt enjoy fishing near as much without it. I will say that if there is any way you can swing it get a pair of talons/power poles not a single. You dont have to worry about wind direction when you reply you just hit down and you are stuck in position. With one I swivel around if I dont stay on the trolling motor.

I use it every single trip year round for something. Launching, fishing, getting lures unstuck, re-rigging, and loading.

It is priceless when shooting docks...but like I said I really want a second one

I have a swim platform that wont allow the second talon. My son would disown me if I got rid of it. Will a spot lock trolling motor work with a single talon or do the fight each other

I recently added power poles and I use them a lot. This is the first spring I've used them and they are great in skinny water. I tried going the one pole route but I spent just about as much time on the trolling motor unless is was a calm day. I don't use a spot lock TM because I don't want the trolling motor coming on when I'm in 3 ft. water but in deeper water I can see where I would like one. I shoot docks pretty much year round and I've got to do a lot more fishing since adding poles. If you can position your boat just right the one Talon will work but around docks and boat houses it seems the wind is always shifting.

To whom much is given, much is required.

I'm using mine every day right now while the fish are shallow. It also comes in handy when you launch your boat by yourself. The talon and an Xi5, I haven't used an anchor in awhile...
