Back in the 60's San Antonio was ground zero for a nuke attack back then with all the military bases, and sonic booms were common. Back when I was in high school an ammo bunker blew up at Lackland Medina Base complex, and it shook the ground for miles and did some damage even with a mushroom cloud. I remember thinking as well as everyone else that was the end of us. Thank you to the OP for reminding me of a very stressful time in my life! Sorry Jimbo!

Lived right on the flight path for Tinker on 10th street. Planes came in so low their landing gear was down. C-130's were the lowest fliers over our place but the bombers were the loudest. Wife cannot understand how I can sleep during a loud thunderstorm but after 24-7 of low flying aircraft they are just a whisper.

There was an electric bomb site on the Toledo Bend dam back in the 80's. B-52's would run the bomb run at about 500' down the lake. I've been fishing a cove when one came over. Got real loud real fast. Just about had to change pants. They also did that over Kansas.

Yep. Grandparents place SE of Kaufman had some kind of radar dome on it they built when DFW was built. Planes would us it as a target for bombing runs. Low and fast, scare the poop out of you.

Yep, been a long time though. Pics of planes breaking the sound barrier are amazing.

Heard them a lot in the early 60's heading the for Gulf coast. They would cause everyone on the block to come outside to see what happened when the windows ratttled.

think they stopped them due to broken windows and old wimmins gettin skeered, then again we were still doing duckncover for nukes at school too. My aunt lived near there , I stayed with her for a while one summer, It would rattle items off the shelf. I read later these were test flights to determine damage caused by sonic booms. MO

I lived in Lubbock Texas growing up from a toddler and Reese AFB being very active we heard those SBs' almost daily . Us kids would try spotting the plane when it happened . Most times we could not find it but sometimes got lucky and did .

The timing of this question is impeccable. We had a sonic boom yesterday in Northeast Oklahoma, caused by a meteor.
