Must have been over a hundred of them. Caught this guy with my cast net and then let him go. So i'm guessing this is pretty good Catfish food, if you don't have any Shad. I could have gotten all the Carp I wanted if I wanted too!!! This guy weighed 12.4 pounds.

Ok everyone can think what they want but I have had carp to eat and they are great human food also. I cooked it two ways:frying and pressure cooking. I fished along the trinity when I was a child and when we caught carp we just threw them on land to expire. I have used carp for bait also and cut carp is a great catfish bait. I will never turn my nose up when I see a carp for bait or on the table.

I guess I should have kept that Carp and fished with it. I could have caught as many Carp as I wanted. They were every where in front of me in shallow water/weeds. Now I know.

I've used it, but have not had as much luck as when using cut shad. I DO like having a big fish like that to cut up when the shad run out, though. excellent insurance.

Carp is my go to. When Shad are far and few between. A 1 inch square will stay on the hook and blues love them.

Carp and buffalo can definitely be good bait, but please release the big girls (20lb+)
Trophy carp are just as hard to come by as trophy cats or bass!

I always do. The little ones are better for bait anyway.

I always do. The little ones are better for bait anyway. Take some photos of 'em and post them on the rough fish section if you do manage to get a nice one!

Skipjack for me. Those Tennessee Tarpons are almost as fun to catch as the catfish.

When they're up in the shallows like that, toss a hook baited with a couple pieces of corn under a small bobber. You'll have fun!
