Today was my attempt on Tawakoni fishing strictly for striped fish. We launched at the State Park about 7:30. Water was fairly calm and we made it too the dam with no problem. Stayed around there for a couple hours knowing the wind would pick up. Im in a 16ft tracker v-guide. Wind and waves are not fun in this little boat. Its holds its own, but not used to the severity of Tawakoni. We ended up back by the state park and fished around some birds and marking fish on the finder. Caught sever hybrids and sand bass just casting sassy shads around the boat when marking fish. Once the trolling motor starting coming out of the water we called it a success and got back too the ramp. Would love to learn to be more effecient on the lake with ramps and locating fish until I get a bigger boat. 7gallon tank and top speed of 26 makes it difficult to go scouting areas. The little boat has been all over Texas now and catching all kinds of species though.

Do some scouting on Navionic site to save you some time and gas. Thanks for the report. Tim

+1 It's even better on a tablet. I will scout the night before on my tablet and then track my location with my phone the next day.

Ill probably never forget Canyon Lake, its a really fun lake to fish. But Im really excited about learning Tawakoni better. I actually fished Tawakoni before I moved to south tx. I didnt fish like I do now though. So itll fun learning the lake and catching fish.

Not sure if you catfish but I can envision you going after some of those huge blues during the winter too!

I think my biggest out of Tawakoni is around 40lbs. Def gunna be getting on the blues this winter. We would take a week and come back to Tawakoni and camp out and fish. Im glad to live 30min from it now! Not to mention 10 mins from lake Fork lol!

I used to live by Lake Lavon before moving down here, not as good as Twok but certainly better than Canyon.
