One of my pet peeves. Several years ago I had a person try to pull around me while I was getting the boat ready to launch. We were over 200 yards away from the ramp waiting in line like everyone else when the person in front of me pulled up almost enough to get a truck and boat in between us. I stepped in front of him and had my back seater pull the truck up and finished getting ready. Pulled up to the ramp, backed in a floated the boat off the trailer and went to park. They pulled up and blocked the one lane ramp and took over 10 minutes getting their boat ready. Needless to say he got a really rude dressing down by lots of folks and I didn't have to say a word. Sometimes I just love Karma.

Maybe he was new to the boating world and didn't know any better and needed a little education. Sometimes being a team player goes a long ways. Just saying..

I had a guy do something similar years ago.

I asked him if he needed help and he said yes so I got in and backed him, parked his JEEP, and brought his keys down to the ramp for him. cheers

Told him anytime he came if he saw me to just ask and I would be happy to help. welcome

The issue that drives me nuts at the ramp are people that back down the ramp and leave there head lights on when its dark. It basically shuts down anybody else's ability to safely back down the ramp. A large part of the problem are new vehicles that automatically turn on headlights when started. Since none of us have to turn on the lights any more, most seam to not know you can manually turn them off. PLEASE turn them off as you start to back down. It will be greatly appreciated.

As to people rigging on the ramp, we where in Port Mansfield a couple of years ago at sunrise just before the start of an all female tournament. It was the most painful thing I have ever witnessed. After 4-5 boats and 25+ minutes on a 2 lane ramp, we finally launched. Teams were 4 woman to a boat and I think each of them made about 20 "Oh I forgot something" digs back into there vehicles. It was so frustrating that it became funny. We figured we could have gone through a case of beer if we had to drink a shot every time they went back to the truck. One was actually quite skilled backing, but the otherers, not so much.

Preserving Texas fishing heritage one lure at a time.

I've always said the most fun you can have on a holiday weekend is to drag up a chair and cooler and set next to the ramp and watch the fun and fights.

Before I had a boat, I had backed my fathers boat down, and unloaded and/or loaded the boat many of times. During my young 20s I helped many of people load/unload boats at Somerville. All happened in the last 10 years, in the last 3 years(boat ownership) I have never had an offer or anything close to someone wanting to help. Ive got the wife, and my buddy trained up and will likely never need help again.

Anyone fishing Conroe or Somerville that wants a new fishing buddy, give me a holler. I dont fish as much as Id like because Im not big on the solo trips.

Thought about that but he was fishing a club tournament and I talked to several that knew him and he was not a new angler. When this club did their weigh in they pulled one boat out at a time and weighed the fish on the ramp. They were asked to move somewhere else by director of a semi-pro group to free up the ramp.
As for being a team player, getting threatened in the dark because I was not riding the person in front of me's bumper won't get you any help. There were over 20 boats getting ready that morning. He knew what he was doing.

Yeah some people are just pricks. Type A personality combined with its all about them mentality.
I do think though that there are some who are just clueless and really doesnt register with them whats going on or what the correct way to do it is.

I found if I just wait and glare at them and get more POd by the minute till I sometimes finally blow up it doesnt do me much good.

OTOH, if I ask them if I can help and mention we normally get all our stuff in or out of the boat somewhere up the hill and out of the way and only tie up the ramp while were actually putting in or taking out. It should be common sense but some dont seem to have hardly any of that when they are new to boating. There is a surprising number like this.

The experienced ones who still do it are just being A holes and deserve to get treated accordingly.

We have never fished Somerville. We are planning a trip there tomorrow but don't know a good boat ramp or area to start fishing. I do have a Livescope so plan to have fun looking for some crappie. Anyone You are welcome to come along for a half day fishing if you can. Thanks
