Hello everyone. I was looking for a good idea of where to put in some kayaks on Lake Dunlap. I saw there was a free boat ramp under 35, but wondered if there was a spot yall think would be better. not looking for honeyholes or anything other than a launch suggestion. thank you!

I see people launching Kayaks under the I-35 bridge all the time...good place to launch...and the prettiest water on the lake.

Just be careful and wear that life jacket. And don't try and hug those rock embankments when you see one of those Wake boats, being driven by drunks hauling around pretty girls on water skis. I am sure you probably know to point your bow toward those 2 ft waves and pray for the best. I think I would rather launch at Schumann's Beach and fish the boat docks, stump fields, and Lilly pads. The river up from I-35 is good, as well as the river down toward the lake. Just be careful of those Bill Dance want-to-be hawg boats and water skiers ripping up and down the river.

The ramp under I-35 is a great kayak launch. Like Steve I have seen many and many of kayaks launched at that ramp. I would make a suggestion not to fish from late May until late September due the the very heavy boat traffic which occurs all summer long. The wake boats are brutal. Side Note: If you do fish the summer months fish very early morning and try to be off the lake by 10am. Just my two cents.

I always put in under the I-35 bridge. Fish a lot from my kayak on Dunlap and the rest of the river lakes. I have used other put ins down river this past year due to some very strong currents as a result of the water let out at Canyon Dam. The currents are fairly normal now. Recreation boat traffic will be extremely heavy during Mid May till Mid September. Stay safe!
