If he is right unless I am on my own or public property someone somewhere is liable for the security of my property and if they fail I am owed money for whatever I say I have.

if he actually has a report, let your legal guys handle it, he doesn't have a chance in hades of collecting a nickel unless he files on his insurance and even then they may not cover it.

Years ago I was backed up to the dock of a company that had built a few new offices and I was there to tape, bed & paint, I walked into the office area and looked over the area I was going to be working, was away from truck less than 5 minutes. Came back and all my tools were gone including a box full of mechanics tools, cordless dewalt, etc, inside an aluminum truck box, they popped it with a crow bar and cleaned me out. The CEO of the company found out and said to make a list of everything including prices, so I did. It came to like $700 and some change. Next day he handed me a check for a grand, I asked why the extra? he said, you forgot they busted your truck box with the crow bar, you're going to need to replace it too. I got lucky because they didn't have to do that.

Does he have proof it happened there? Does he have proof he even owned said tools and weapons?

He may have locked his keys in the car sometime and busted a window out. Then goes around scamming businesses hoping they�ll just pay a quick grand.

His vehicle insurance should cover it.

Have him give you the police incident report number and see if he actually reported it.

Did not know that. I know my homeowners insurance covers theft from my vehicle when at my house but not at a business parking lot.
