Howdy.. heading to Jackson Hole in Aug with the family. The wife is going to give me a hall pass to do some fly fishing on one of the days. Does anyone have any guide recommendations/trip recommendations? I've seen cool videos of floating trips in that area but never fly-fished from a boat. Any help would be appreciated as this is our first time in the area. Thanks!

On a related note - I do want to take my 5 year old bank fishing (even if its just with worms) - so if anyone can recommend areas/fishing shops - that would also be appreciated. Thanks!

-Sean

Head to a local stream on the forest and catch some trout. Worms with a bobber work well for brookies and spinner baits for browns and rainbows.
Some areas will be artificial lures only and barbless hooks. Just pinch the barbs down and no worms but plenty of other areas to float a worm with your kids.
Aug should be low water and perhaps easier fishing, do a float trip but book it asap. Check out these guys:https://www.grandtetonflyfishing.com/
This webpage has some fishing info as well:https://www.jacksonholechamber.com/summer-activities/fishing/

You can also buy the appropriate parks fishing licenses in addition to your Wyoming license and just go fish rivers and lakes in the parks, Yellowstone and Grand Teton.

It is grizz country so plan accordingly.
You'll love the weather in Aug up here, bring a jacket.

Stop at the WG&F office in Jackson and visit with the gals at the desk or talk with the fisheries person there. They will be happy to recc. some fishing spots and know bear activity areas.

I'm sure that someone will come along with better ideas, but wytex above is correct. Nightcrawlers will get you lots of bites. But, they are frowned upon by some of the snooty fly rod bunch. You can try Flat Creek behind the fish hatchery just north of town if it's in season (probably barbless). You can always try the snake river that flows through town, but good luck. You can go to the lakes up in Teton Nat. Park, or even Yellowstone. And you can wade the Gros Ventre river, also north of town.

I always like to get away from town. You can head cross country northeast of town and follow some gravel roads (maybe 20 miles) back into the hills and find some beautiful creeks that are loaded with native cutthrout. Hard to f;y fish, but sneak up on em, and dangle a worm over the brush alongside the creek, and they will eat it up. Might be small, but great eating. Don't turn down a 6" to 8" native trout.Go early and sneak up on em. If they see you they won't bite.

Wave the the "sleeping Indian".

I'm glad there are wine drinkers in this world ..... it saves more beer for the rest of us.
