Anyone have trouble with their on/off switch? Turned my breaker on, while getting ready at the ramp and had the ultrex power up with the button turned off. Noticed it would turn on and off when I hit a wave and finally stopped the boat and turned it on so it didnt completely shut off and me miss out on the tournament.

The switch releases to turn on the trolling motor. It completes the circuit to turn off the motor. Backwards from what it would seem. By default, when the switch doesnt work, the ultrex powers up. Pull the switch and clean the 1/4 female connectors and their 1/4 terminals. It will fix it. It is a known issue. Replacing the switch, which costs around 25 cents, is only a short term fix. It will be an ongoing thing.

Consider this cleaning as routine maintenance.

I had the same issue, cleaned up and tightened the connections and so far it hasn't come back. (Been about 8 months I think.)

Easy fix.

Fortrex are invincible , hard to believe the same company produced the greatest of all time tank tm and the biggest snowflake, candy arse pos as the ultrex and yes I have an ultrex and yes it is heading to shop. It's amazing the amount of money and pain we go through just to sit in one place in 20 feet.

Had mine for over a year and works flawlessly. Y'all must be abusing them. Best option I've ever purchased for my boat.

Mine is nothing tragic, the plastic neck where the control cables enter is cracking. Both the 2 other people I fish with regular are having issues or pieces pop off in same area. One is a year old the other 2 are less.

Maybe I will just duct tape the hell outa it. That's what I wanted to do with a 2500 dollar tm. I have 2 fortrex in my garage that are literally beat to hell and if I hooked either up they would both work just fine.

That's why I haven't bought an ultrex. The percentage of people who have issues of any kind with them is high. Fortrex is a beast of a TM.

It's a known issue. It takes a shop about 5 minutes to replace the switch. I have had mine replaced 2 times while i wait.

Had mine since they first came out, only issue i had was the monetary on button was not working all the time, took me about 10 minutes to adjust the switch. Would not trade for it, 4 trex are bad arse motors as well, kind of like having a really nice vehicle without power windows and locks.

I just installed my ultrex 2 weeks ago. Now the locking mechanism you pull to unlock it moves back and forth. It will not stay centered. Called Minn Kota and was told that its normal. So I bought a 25 hundred dollar tm I have to adjust the locking mechanism every time to lock or unlock ?? Had a maximum come on the boat when I bought it new. Not one problem with it except the pull cord broke one time. Junk in my opinion and nobody cares.

Got a new Ultrex for a retirement gift. Just put it on yesterday. A friend who had done several helped and said several of his friends had this problem. Kinda a design flaw but he said to be sure to pull the release cord straight back(towards rear of boat) when deploying motor. If you pull straight up on cord/handle it pulls across big rubber grommet that the controls come out of the head and pulls it off or tears it. Even though the natural inclination is to pull up get in a habit of pulling cord straight back and lift with the head or shaft and you wont have this (design flaw) problem. I think we are talking about the same problem.. thumb
