Based on previous years I should've known better but I hit the Vine today with jig & bobber in 1-3 FOW.
Not even a bite in my 4-5 best areas from previous years. Seems like we're still a couple of weeks away.
Historically I've done better in mid April.

Y'all think big wind affects spawning fish? Will they stay up on a shallow bank when it's getting pounded?

Back off the banks and find some brushpikes or structure they are there. Try deep banks too. Tree tops laid over as Im catching on banks that has structure. Dead stick and try different colors. Stick and move stick and move.

Not surprising. That lake is one of the latest spawning lakes around. Usually mid April to early June is prime time. Mainlake brush wont be holding much right now either. The crappie would prefer to get out the the wind to spawn from what I can tell.

Waves stir up the silt that will cover the eggs. Fish don't like to spawn on windy banks.

Ray Roberts has been hit and miss too. Some days they are shallow, the next day the pull back and/or get lockjaw. I'm hoping this is the last cold front!

It has been 20 years since I moved from Roanoke to Rockwall. My recollection that peak time on Grapevine starts around mid April. By about mid May I was catching barn doors in 20-25' on the Flower Mound side on the largest threadfins I could net. There was only one place on that lake that I fished much during the spawn. When they were there you do not have to go anywhere else.
