What ingredients do you use if you make your own food/drink?

I've got my decoys out...so it should be soon. What load do you like for them? BB? Bug a salt works great. No self respecting hunter shoots less than a 20 gauge.

What ingredients do you use if you make your own food/drink? 1 cup of plain sugar to 4 cups of water. Mix well. No need to heat it up. A 1 to 4 ratio works well and will reduce the number of bees/wasps. Chill the left over fluid.

It helps the sugar dissolve, refrigerate, then fill my feeders.

I put out a feeder a couple of days ago. No birds yet. I put mine out about a week early this year because of reported sightings in the area.

First one showed up about an hour ago. Wife noticed the first one yesterday. Those little BA’s are already fighting over the feeders.

No food coloring. Not good for the birds. If your feeder has red on it, that's all you need. Some commercial hummingbird feed has red mixed in, but it is different from food coloring and in my opinion not needed. Just mix your own and save money.

How does the red food coloring affect the birds ? Have used it for quite a while both here and in Arizona and not aware of this.
