I know this may be a dumb question. But, which portion of the lake typically warms sooner? I know rocky, shallower areas. But, I mean like the northeastern or northwestern, for example? I’m really trying to “learn” how to fish in the spring. I do a lot of chunking and winding, but would really like to learn the ins and outs of spring fishing.

+1. Also, keep an eye on the wind. If you get a long steady blow it'll move the warm water around. If the fish are close it could be enough to push them up or it could be enough to trigger feeding.

Look for Creeks/coves that run East or West. If the said creek has a Dog Leg, which is a sharp bend breaking North or South, this will help to hold in the warm water if the North wind blows. Coves that run West and break with a Dog Leg gets the predominate SE Wind to keep the warm water pushed into the back of the creek arm. Any Dog Leg makes it very difficult for the N. Wind to move the water out of the back of the creek. Just move to the South shore of the creek and you will find the warm surface water when the N. Wind blows. We are not talking about a great difference in the surface Temperature. There may only be 1 or 2 degrees difference form one cove to the next that run East and West with a nice North Shore to warm first. You will find your higher temp. of 2 degrees in the Dog Leg Coves. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2019/03/full-28031-5957-roberts_16.png)

Thank you all for the input. As I said, I’m trying to learn how to fish the early spring.
