Great flow on the river and today was perfect for a paddle. Trolled from the primitive launch to the steps and got one male dink around some large rocks. The steps were fairly busy but not bad. The water level in the river will allow them to run up past the steps. Caught 6 males and only one keeper. The females must be relaxing still before they get to work. A fly fisherman next to me caught probably 30 with only a couple keepers, all males. Caught my one keeper on a 4 foot dive lure and the dinks on white jig.

Thanks, might skip this year, but good to hear that people are still having some luck there.

@bengo: Was it very crowded out there? I have been wanting to take my son out for some whites.

Never fished the San Gabriel, but have been looking for somewhere to launch my kayak. Where is the best place to drop a kayak in?

The primitive launch just up the road from the steps if it is open. Haven't been that way in a while. HERE
