I'm looking for a new drop shot rod. I had ordered one off amazon and it arrived with a broken tip. It was also the last one they had of that type. What would you use? Looking for the $100 range.

Highly suggest a Dobyns Fury 702sf, rated Medium Light but more a medium medium light, but still a nice fast tip. Not much that will compete for the same $109 price tag. But it from tacklewarehouse and you wont gave to pay Tax. Or Cabelas normally has them in stock.

When it isnt drop shot season I have either a weightless Senko or shaky head tied on and it does great for all.

Go to Fun N Sun and check out the MajorCraft Don Iovino series Custom finesse...bait cast or spinning rod...either one is on par for DS and shaky. This rod was designed for this technique.

Nothing wrong with a carbonlite in that price range

Handled the G Loomis but it was awfully light to do anything except drop shot, which I why I went Dobyns.

I know it might be out of your price range, but the NRX 822S DSR is one of the best rods I have ever fished. Totally
Changed the way I use a spinning set up. I swore I would never use a fairy stick, but it is one of the most enjoyable
Setups I have. 12lb braid with an 8lb floro leaders do feel everything.

Conventional only:
I broke a Falcon Cara 7' light action on a 9 LB a couple of springs ago. It may have been from being on the deck a lot and possibly stepped on.
I mainly use a St Croix Avid 7' drop shot model which is also a light action.
My backup is a Reel Time Rods custom 6'9" Warrior light action.
My wife has their spinning model and it works fine for her.

I use one of these as my go to drop shot rod and really like it. I have it in a bait caster model paired up with a steez reel.

FYI you don't have to always use spinning gear for a drop shot. I don't and I fish a drop shot quite a bit. The only time I use it on spinning gear is when I am fishing 25+ft. deep straight down right below the boat over fish I see on my depth finder. That way I can just flip the bail and let it drop.

I would recommend if you plan on fishing more than a 1/4oz weight then get a MH fast spinning rod lol I have broke a medium action casting a 1/2oz weight into the wind.

Try an Alpha Angler DSR, this rod changed the way I fish. Alpha is not well known but they make amazing spinning rods.

A drop shot works all year long. Its "season" does not end.
