I export my corn meal from the east coast. This is what I grew up on. [Linked Image]

I make the beans, mama makes the cornbread. She uses buttermilk and lard.

My wife likes a little cornbread mix with her sugar. Can't be healthy but it's better than birthday cake.

We put a little sugar in our CB, but its not sweet. Now Ive had sweet cornbread. Sweet like cake. Thats not cornbread.

A little sugar in the CB is great.........Maybe a little Jalapeno and whole kernel corn added is good too. That meal looks great.

we do a mexican cornbread with cream corn, jalapeno, ground meat and cilantro. don't care for sweet cornbread as a rule, but we have a girlfriend that makes a sweet cornbread that's like cake and it's pretty good stuff.

No sugar or flour in my cornbread, just corn meal, salt, soda, egg and buttermilk. Heat cast iron skillet with enough oil to cover bottom to 425 degrees, pour in mixture and cook for 20 minutes or so. Nice crust bottom served with lots of butter, pintos and onion.

We alternate between pintos and little kidney. Pintos seem better with Mexican.

This is the way I do it. I do add some chopped pickled jalapenos and some frozen whole kernel corn. No sugar or flour, though. Sometimes I throw caution to the wind and heat bacon grease instead of oil.
