Do I need to install the gps puck for the ulltrex. Does the gps in the carbon give the ultrex it's positioning?

If your Ultrex is anything like my Ulterra it has a gps in the head. So that is giving it its position. A blue tooth antenna will improve Spot Lock. I don't see how your Carbon can have anything to do with your Ultrex, but maybe I am under educated on this subject.

The GPS Puck that comes with the Ultrex is actually a Heading Sensor. Zero impact on "improving" spot lock. The Heading Sensor is designed for the use of the I-Pilot "jog feature

Your Carbon doesn't communicate GPS with your Ultrex in any way

The Minnkota Heading Sensor "talks" to the iPilot GPS via Bluetooth.

With Humminbird units and the iPilot LINK Minnkota, the Minnkota Heading Sensor can be used for heading with the new sonar units also with current software.

iPilot and iPilot LINK is the same with a Terrova, Ulterra, and Ultrex

yes , you need the puck, and no, the Ultrex doesnt communicate to the Carbon in any way. You still could use a Lowrance point1 to improve mapping. They look similar, but for different things.
