What is the oil capacity? Do you fill until it touches the vent hole?

Fill until oil comes out the vent hole. Take the boat out and run it until the oil gets warm. Load back on trailer and crack the vent hole and allow any pressure or extra fluid to exit. tighten vent and go fishing. Releasing the pressure and allowing any extra fluid to escape will save you blown seals. It will be good to go until you change fluid again.
