I have a farm pond that's around 40 yards by 40 yards in size. Its around 14 ft deep at full pool. Problem is, that it's full of stunted crappie. Just this weekend in about 2 hrs, I caught 107 crappie, all between 5 and 8 inches. ( and no I didn't catch the same ones over, I put all of them in an ice chest full of water so I could count ) There are quite a few big ones in it also. As of today my biggest has been a 4 lb 3 oz one, and numerous fish in the 2 to 3 lbs.
I want to get rid of the stunters, and don't care if I lose any big ones. But would like to try and keep the big ones for table fare. ( if that makes sense) What methods are there to accomplish this feat?
One thought was to use rotentine( may be misspelled ) to do an o2 depletion and once they come up, net the ones I want to keep, then net everything else for disposal, OR try and get me a 15 to 20 lb yellow cat and cut it loose in the pond. Only where can I get one of those?
Seining is out of the question. We put seine obstacles in it when we had it stocked with catfish, and a seine would get hung up, and the obstacles would be to difficult to find, and get out.
So any suggestions would be helpful.

Have all your friends go crappie fishing and cull out the stunted ones.

Cast net will get rid of a lot rather quickly

That's the classic outcome for ponds less than 10 acres stocked with crappie. I'd drain it and start over.

I am assuming they are white crappie? Black crappie are supposed to do better in smaller ponds. They still need to be culled and have bass in there to keep the population down or they will stay small.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah whites. My plan is to put my traps back out ( usually get 30 to 40 a day ), go this weekend with 2 friends and put a hurting on them. There up shallow right now, and easy pickins. Hopefully this summer it will draw down enough where we can pump it out, then scoop up what we can, clean it up and re-stock with catfish. 36 years ago when the tank was built, and only about 3 ft deep, a neighbor threw 5 crappie he caught out of the lake in it. 2 years later it was stocked with catfish. We never thought about crappie until 15 years ago when one was caught by accident. Now look at it .Jeeeezzz!
If we catch enough, we may treat them like bream, clean them and fry them up whole.
