A Galveston Party Boat with 61 guests ventured out 35 miles from Galveston to the Buccaneer Rigs. This 10 hour trip produced 20 Gulf Trout, 1 Dorado (which was probably lost), and 1 Lane Snapper. The Charter Capt. had to find places to fish to dodge all the Red Snapper! You can't catch Red Snapper in Federal Waters until June 1st.

Let's face it. The red snapper mortality rate from year round incidental catches far exceeds the retention rate during the limited season.

Yeah unfortunately I've seen long trails of belly up snapper behind party boats out over the rocks. Most do little if anything to vent and release them properly. Sad that businesses that depend upon the resource for their living have so little respect for it. bang
