I don't see anything about putting fish on ice... this is a close as I can find: 1051 Fail to keep fish edible condition Tex. Parks & Wild. Code § 62.011
Maybe the game warden felt that there wasn't enough ice, or the Fish weren't in a cooler? Putting them on ice WOULD keep fish in an edible condition... I'd like to see the ticket for the violation number...
Fly tier (yeah, I can fly fish...but the fish don't like frothy water!)

Wild guess, they need proof of when the fish were caught, yesterday or today. Can you keep "two limits in possession"?

I think it was last year I was buying minnows at gas station when I told the cashier I didn't need a receipt. She graciously informed me that if I was checked I would receive a ticket. Before finding that out I had big plans of building a small pond and filling it with minnows caught at a creek. I just cant stand the price of those things.I can't remember if I read on this forum or not about a new rule that you needed to empty all water from your boat including live wells before leaving ramp. I hope Im misunderstanding that because I plan to fish lakes an hour away. I have a neighbor that has a water tank , he made it to hold left over minnows and 3 to 4 of us would use it to save the left overs, it was nice to go by and pick up some left overs and go fishing for a quick trip without going to the store, I guess all good things come to a end.
If it was easy, everyone would do it

In the summer months, we have a fish cooler that is half full of ice onboard. We throw the few we plan to eat in the cooler, the rest get released. Never had an issue when getting checked

Wow, I can't believe they have already spawned out with the cold weather we've had, but what do it know?
Ive been trying to tell folks this for years, YET THE WATER TEMP MYTH is a diehard concept.
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

Most years there's some big crappie move into Cedar Creek to spawn in Feb. May only be there 1-3 days before they move back deeper, but they're there when water conditions are right.
