Those that don't understand why this is wrong....never will....no matter how many times you try to explain it to them. who appointed you to be the junior game warden here? The ones making negative assumptions here seem to me to be a bigger problem. Remember the old adage of the word "assume"?

Well Stated J.P. Our kids learn from what they see. Regardless if Pro or weekend Tournament Fishing, no one should encroach on another fisherman regardless if fishing tournament or just out enjoying the sport. Once you leave the area its open to whom ever gets in first. I don't feel that anyone should be critical of that person who chooses to fish an unoccupied area, he has every right to do so. In this situation I personally would not but that'ts just me. We have large tournaments every weekend and these guys are always pulling in front of the non tournament fishermen. Happen to me three times this weekend. I stopped fishing tournaments a long time ago, but I truly believe the fishermen were much more respectable and we didn't have 300 boats in one tournament. Of course in the 70's a fellow might get in the boat with you. As you said "Karma is a Bitch". We are experiencing the same "entitlement" mentality with regard to Duck Hunting. I think its just a generational thing. I'm 70.

So help me to understand. Tournament Fishermen are privileged, and if they catch a fish anywhere on the lake, that spot is off limits to all other fishermen until the tournament is over. So what if the day before the tournament I get on fish, then by your reasoning "my" spot is off limits to the tournament guy should I show up the next day, RIGHT? WOW! You took that a total different direction... I'll try to explain. If your going to the lake and the pros are there fishing, perhaps your plan is to pot lick for an upcoming tournament, maybe your just there to watch the pros fish, or maybe just fun fishing. So you see a pro boat and ease over to watch, its an area you have never fished before. Then when said pro leaves the spot, again that you had no prior knowledge was there, you decide to fish the spot that you just potlicked. Then an hour later said pro comes back to the spot and finds you sitting on the area fishing it. Why did he leave if its so good, simple... water reloads or perhaps he had a milk run of these type spots. Either way he's fishing for $100k, atleast have the decency to come back and fish it AFTER the tournament... or if your dead set on being a potlicker then waypoint it after he leaves but DONT FISH THE SPOT DURING THE TOURNAMENT the guy you stole it from is fishing. If you truly already know the spot or its a community hole I'd never fault a person for fishing it, but if you didnt know the spot in advance of seeing the pro on it thats a total douche move. I dont care if its a High School angler or a 50 year old man, wrong is wrong. Again, you're assuming you knew what went on in these high school kid's heads. Maybe they knew about the spot beforehand and they were ALSO fishing a tournament. They saw a pro leave a spot THEY knew about beforehand and then moved in to fish it after he left it...again...rather than making negative assumptions, lets all agree that NOBODY here owns the water and NOBODY here knows exactly what these high school kids were thinking. He assumed nothing. He said "if" they were doing this, or "if" they were doing that. This entire debate really has nothing to do with high school tournament anglers. It's just the same old debate about whether or not you give the pros some extras courtesies when you are on the same lake as they are during one of their tournaments. Most people choose to show them some courtesy.
The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

It's just the same old debate about whether or not you give the pros some extras courtesies when you are on the same lake as they are during one of their tournaments. Most people choose to show them some courtesy. Look, they hold tournaments every weekend at the major lakes. This is just another of the reason I fish more saltwater now. Having someone judge me or publicly admonish me or anyone else who fishes in a spot someone vacates on a public lake is just plain stupidity at best. I don't go out to potlick people and I'm courteous on the water...however I work 9-5 during the week and if I only have a Saturday to run to Rayburn or similar lake to fish and some "pro" leaves a spot on the lake and I fish it because I've been there before...sorry if it hurts your feelings. I don't find that unethical and think some people need to get off the cross...we could use the wood elsewhere.
