Has anyone that had one of the G2N units with side imaging switched over to the G3N? I'm wondering if there is any difference in the image quality, specifically as it relates to side imaging? Reading the description of the newer units leads me to believe that the changes to this unit are mainly in really deep water (100ft+), which really isn't applicable to any bass fishing I do. There has to be more to the new models than just that change. Makes me wonder if humminbird has live scope type system on the way that will be compatible with these G3N units. There are still some good deals to be had on the G2N units right now. Really don't want to spend $300+ extra for nothing.

I put 3 G3 units on my boat a few weeks ago. I purchased the units and had them installed at Toledo fiberglass on Toledo bend lake. By the way great guys! They said the only problems they ever had with the G2 units was circuit board failures. They said the circuit boards for the G2 was built in China. The circuit boards are now built in the USA on the G3 units. As far as the side imaging on the 2 units, I will say that I can't tell any difference, but then again the images on the G2 were impressive and if they improved that I honestly can't tell.

I'm Lowrance guy but have two Helix 12 mega's g2n that I'm about to install to run along with my Lowrances. Going to run 360 up front and use mega si/di/map at the console. Anyways, from what I've heard there really isn't much difference in imaging between g2n and g3n. What I would like to know is if the side scan out further and 2D has improved much. I love being able to look out further on my Lowrance, mark something I may see and swing back over it to take a look. I wouldn't trade my 2D and DI up front over Hummingbird . Can't wait to use the 360.... Sorry... I wasn't trying to hijack the thread just curious about the g3n as well

Here are some mega + screen shots from another forum. The range is better http://www.bbcboards.net/showthread.php?t=953923
