This has probably been covered, however, in order to operate live scan. Is the Garmin with accompanying transducer the only option ? Adaptable to my unit, Lowrance HDS 8 Gen 2 ? Any and all threads welcome, thanking you in advance for your responses.

For today, it is the only option. I understand Lowrance is coming out with their live scope version this month. And no doubt Garmin is working on Rev2 of Livescope. I believe It'll be tough to leapfrog Garmin, once they're so far behind. Maybe in a few generations, they'll catch up.

One 10-pounder is better than ten 1-pounders; but 100 1-pounders is ok too!

Lowrance is to start shipping their LiveSight transducer in April. From what I am seeing from the video, LiveSight Down will be in real time, LiveSight Forward appears to be the 1st version of Garmin's Panoptix which is 2D sonar. Pay close attention to the down and forward description in the video.

Will the new Livesight be compatible with my HDS8 gen 1? Or will I have to buy one of these fancy new HDS Live units?

It has to be a carbon or the new HDS Live unit. A module will be required for LiveSight to work on the Carbon models.

Looks like they are still behind!

Hope Humminbird come out with something up to date and that can compete with the garmin

Me too! I have a Humminbied 998SI and 898Si that I bought just a few weeks before an idiot neighbor set my boat on fire. Sure hoping to have both those units on a new (or new to me) boat soon,
