This time of year, with the conditions the way they are, which should I fish in galveston? The 61st Street Pier or the galveston jetties. What should I focus on? Aany kings or tarpon showing up around there yet? Sharks? Will be leaving for Iraq in about 2 weeks for my second tour and want to catch some fish this last weekend at home. I will be home for a 4 day weekend fri through monday.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if one of the Galveston fishermen here offers to take you out fishing away from both the pier and the jetties.
Thanks for your service to our country.

There have been good reports of trout, etc. coming from the San Luis Pass pier. I'd give them a try at night.

Quick question, not related to the thread: What is the difference between a pier and a jetty here? In UK a pier is made of stone, and a jetty is made of wood.

With us, it's just the opposite. A pier is usually a wooden structure over the water and a Jetty is a stone structure in the water.
(We must of swithed it after independence like we did with a lot of british traditions. IE; having the horses run the opposite direction at the race track etc.)

Last Monday, I fished San Luis Pass and even with strong winds and chocolate water, picked up 6 decent sized specs on assassins in a couple of hours. So, I'd head down the island to the SLP pier.

I think the name is Wolf Island Park. Fished there once and did great. Fishing map shows the channel comes real close to the pier. Everyone was very friendly. Get there early though. There were a few folks.
