The biggest one that will allow future improvements. Dont know your age however, your eyesight will not improve over time !

If youve got 1K to spend, Id get 2 Garmins. Theyre extremely user friendly and produce solid images. You can get a 9 with side imaging and a 7 with down imaging, both with chirp for under or right at a $1k

Any of the Echomap graphs are good graphs..from the Garmin.com website, click the drop down and select Marine, then chartplotters.... you can look into the the Fishfinder section and it will show you the Striker Plus series. Either the Echomaps or Striker series can keep you under a grand for 2 graphs.

Just make sure what you get if going with two will network together
Some models will only network with like models so be careful if mixing.

Not discounting the striker model but I really would look at the ECHOMAP plus hard. They will run Livescope if you ever decide to go that route.
Lot of deals around for the 9 models.

Not sure if this is allowed or not so if not please delete.
There is a lot of good info here related to fishing but for information and help on electronics the BBC boards is a great place. Lots of good electronics info there.
